About the event

Burial Beer Co. is releasing Echoes of the Forest Oak-aged Brown Ale at this year's Sharpen the Blades — their annual celebration of farmhouse ales at Forestry Camp.


Here's the story behind the pour: Matt Christie of Green River Woods — one of our partner woodworkers and an Asheville urban wood salvager since 2008 — sourced Helene-felled white oak from his network of local arborists and sawyers. Appalachian Cooperage / Taylor Stave in Marion, NC hand-built six 30-gallon barrels from that timber. Burial filled them — with guidance from the legends of American oak fermentation at Firestone Walker Brewing — and created a 5.7% malt-forward brown ale with oaked essence and a tannin character that lingers like the memory of Helene itself.
